The charging cables listed below will be compatible with your vehicle if it has a Type 2 vehicle socket. It does not matter if your EV or PHEV (Hybrid) can only accept charging up to 3kW, 7kW or 11kW , you can still use either a 7kW or 22kW charging cable. The vehicle and charging point will communicate with each other to ensure that your vehicle receives the correct amount of current, so any Type 2 to type 2 cable can be used. Type 2 to Type 2 cables are available in lengths of 3Metres, 5Metres, 10Metres, 15Metres and 20Metres.
What is a Type 2 to Type 2 32A charging cable?
In short, Type 2 is the name given to the plugs that fit into the sockets of the vehicle and the charging point. The vast majority of charging points in Europe use the Type 2 socket, so if you want to charge your EV or PHEV the cable to an AC public charging point or a home wall box, then you will need the cables below. The plug that fits into the charging socket of your vehicle will either be Type 1 or Type 2. The majority of vehicles have a Type 2 socket.
If you do not know what a Type 2 vehicle socket looks like, please click on one of the cables below for a photo. Or, you can locate your vehicle to view all of the cables available.
A 32A cable refers to the amount of current the cable can carry. Therefore, a Type 2 32A cable is either capable of providing current up to 7.4kW (1 Phase 32A) or up to 22kW (3 Phase 32A).
Should I buy a 1 Phase or 3 Phase cable?
You can use any Type 2 32A charging cable for your vehicle, so the answer depends on whether your vehicle can benefit from 3 Phase charging. If the AC onboard charger (OBC) of your vehicle can charge at 11kW, 16kW or 22kW, then a 3 Phase 32A cable that charges up to 22kW will allow your vehicle to receive more current, therefore faster charging, when using a 3 Phase charging point. Because most home wall boxes can only charge at 1 Phase 32A, customers will purchase the 1 Phase Type 2 32A cable that charges around 7.4kW. Customers who have a vehicle capable of 3 Phase charging will buy a Type 2 32A 3 Phase charging cable if they charge away from home and use a 3 Phase charging point. Please note that if your car is advertised at charging at 50kW or above then this relates to DC (rapid) charging and these cables are already attached to the DC charging unit.
