Type 2 1 Phase 16A 3.7kW CEE Charger For 220-240V 16A CEE Socket

£180.00£216.00 vat included

Type 2 to 16A 1 Phase 220-240V Commando socket charger that will allow you to charge an EV using a 1 Phase 16A Commando (also known as the industrial, camping or CEE) socket. The Commando charger is capable of delivering up to 3.7kW. It doesn’t matter if your Type 2 socket vehicle can handle more than 3.7kW; you can still use this industrial/camping socket EV charger, provided the 3 pin CEE/Commando socket is 1 Phase 16A. Please check that you have the correct Commando socket for this charger. We also have chargers available for other types of CEE socket. A canvas cable bag is supplied with your charger and there is the option to upgrade to a case that will store more than one EV cable. Please read the user booklet included with your cable before using it. Read below for important information about this charging cable.

Please Read Before You Buy
Our Type 2 to CEE chargers are normally returned for one of the reasons below. Reading this information may help you to avoid having to send your charger back to us. Please also read the Product Description further down the page as it contains important information about this CEE charger.

  • Will the CEE plug fit your CEE / Commando socket? Make sure that you have the correct Commando socket. A 3 Phase socket will have 5 holes and usually have a red cover and a 1 Phase socket will have 3 holes and a blue cover. The Amp rating is usually on the cover of the socket. It should state 32 or 32A.
  • Is the cable long enough? Measure the length from your CEE / Commando socket to where your vehicle will usually be parked (the Type 2 vehicle socket is usually on the right side, to the rear of the vehicle) and add half a metre to avoid over stretching the cable.
  • Is this CEE charger compatible with my vehicle? If you know that your EV has a Type 2 socket, then this Type 2 to CEE charger is compatible with your vehicle. The vehicle will also adjust the current it receives to ensure that the EV will not receive more current than it’s battery will allow. If you are not sure if your vehicle has a Type 2 socket, please view the photos of a Type 2 socket on this page and match them with the vehicle. You can also view a list of Type 2 socket EV’s below, or use our EV Cable Finder.
  • Is this a rapid charging cable? This is not a CCS cable. If you want a cable to use with a DC rapid charger, you do not need to buy one as the cable is always attached to the unit.
Cable Care & Safety
To ensure that you take care of your charger, please make sure that you follow the safety instructions in the user booklet for your charging cable. Please read the booklet before using the CEE charger. If you do not receive the user booklet, please let us know. Please also check out our EV Cable Care Guide for advice about safely using your CEE charging cable and how to avoid the most common reasons why it will stop working.

Use A 220-240V 16A Commando Socket To Charge A Type 2 Socket EV Up To 3.7kWp to 3.7kW

The Type 2 to 230V Blue 16A Commando charger, also known as industrial or CEE socket, is capable of delivering a current of up to 3.7W.

It does not matter if your EV/PHEV/Hybrid can handle more than 3.7kW, because the vehicle will dictate the maximum current it can draw from the EV charger.

The charger’s current can be adjusted to provide 8A, 10A, 13A, or 16A, and your chosen setting will be saved for the next time you charge your EV. Ensure that your Commando socket is 3-pin 16A and not the 3-pin 32A socket or the 3 Phase 5-pin socket. Are you looking for a Type 2 to 16A or 32A 3 Phase CEE charger, or a 32A 1 Phase CEE charger? Then please view our selection of Type 2 to CEE / Commando socket chargers.

Is This 16A Single Phase Commando EV Charger Suitable For My EV / PHEV?

Choosing The Right Charger

The 16A Commando plug can be used with a 1 Phase 16A Commando socket. You can identify the socket by its blue cover and the presence of three holes, along with the marking “16A” or “16”. For electric vehicle charging, it’s important to ensure the power socket is suitable. It is therefore recommended to have a qualified electrician certify that both the socket and the power supply meet the necessary requirements for this purpose.

The EV must also have a Type 2 socket to use this charger. The majority of electric vehicles sold in Europe have a Type 2 socket. The vehicle will either have a 7 hole socket for AC charging, or a 9 hole CCS socket. CCS stands for Combined Charging Socket because it combines the sockets required for AC and DC charging. The Type 2 cable is designed to fit into the 7-hole upper chamber of the CCS socket. So if your vehicle socket has 7 holes or 9 holes, it is Type 2.

If you are still not sure, click the button below to locate your EV / PHEV and this will confirm if your vehicle is Type 2. Please also check the information at the top of this page, “Please Read Before You Buy”, to help avoid the most common reasons for returning a charging cable.

Do You Want A Charger With Multiple Adapters?

If you’re in search of a versatile EV charger compatible with various power sockets, then consider our multi-adapter charger. The charger supports charging from both 1 Phase and 3 Phase sockets, and provides a current range of 6A to 32A.

This charger allows connection to a variety of outlets. For instance, the 3 pin and 5 pin Commando sockets, the 13A mains socket, and the 16A Euro (Schuko) socket. You have the flexibility to choose the specific adapters you need for your charger. Furthermore, it incorporates a charging timer, enabling charging to start anywhere from 1 to 10 hours after being plugged in. When using the 3 pin UK plug adapter, the charger will automatically select a safe 10A charging mode.

For a detailed breakdown of the maximum currents provided by the multi-adapter charger when used with different adapter/power outlets, refer to the table below:

Adapter & OutletMax kW
3 Phase CEE 32A22kW
3 Phase CEE 16A11kW
1 Phase CEE 32A7,4kW
1 Phase CEE 16A3,7kW
UK 13A 2,2kW
Schuko 16A3,7kW

The maximum current displayed in the above table will not necessarily align with the current that the EV/PHEV can accept. In other words, the vehicle can only accept up to the maximum current of its onboard charger (OBC).

EV Cable Bag And Case

We provide a free canvas cable bag (suitable for cables up to 10M) to store this charger when not in use. You can also upgrade the bag to a cable case made from EVA material for enhanced waterproofing and impact protection. The EVA case has an elasticated strap in the bottom compartment and elasticated mesh pocket in the top. So it allows convenient storage of two cables. The EVA case can therefore carry 2 cables if each cable does not exceed 10 metres length (20M total length). You can replace the canvas bag with an EVA case by selecting the option in the basket or checkout page.
